Committed to our people, our partners and our neighbours
The safety and wellbeing of the people that work for us is paramount. We prioritise safe working across our business and champion initiatives that help to ensure people go home at the end of the working day.
Our services and operations help to create significant and sustained economic and partnership opportunities for people, contractors, suppliers and local communities in our service areas.
Protecting our people
Our greatest asset is our workforce
The health, safety and welfare of our employees is of the utmost importance.
We strive to develop a positive health and safety culture across the company with the aim to produce a working environment that is free of accidents, ill health and damage to property and equipment.
We are committed to continually improving health and safety standards and performance. To this end we have introduced HomeSafe.
HomeSafe is our wide-ranging behavioural change programme.
HomeSafe is about staff, contractors and visitors getting to work safely, enjoying a safe and healthy working environment, and arriving home without incident at the end of each working day. It has been rolled out across the company to help strive for the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace.
It incorporates several levels of safety thinking, which can be seen in the circular model below. This is being supported with a broad set of Health and Safety indicators to improve management information, insights and safety performance. This will allow for a greater understanding of injury and ill-health causes and allows us to benchmark against other companies across many sectors.
We encourage our employees, contractors, partners and customers to always embrace HomeSafe principles and ensure that they work safely on our facilities at all times.
Raising awareness of the need for change
Educating our communities
We invite schools, colleges and community groups to learn in our interactive environmental visitor centres at our facilities across the UK.
Engaging with students and community groups helps raise understanding of the need to bring resources to life. Teaching children about recycling from a young age means that it is more likely to become normal behaviour in adulthood.
This is why we invite schools, colleges and community groups to learn in our interactive environmental visitor centres at our facilities across the UK. We help promote better understanding and best practice in waste reduction, reuse, recycling, recovery, resource management and sustainability.
Working with our supply chain
Our significant energy recovery and polymers recycling practices support the need for a dynamic value adding supply chain.
Our supply chain promotes vital relationships that support the day-to-day running of Viridor’s facilities, innovation partnerships and supply resource for long term investment programmes. The supply chain is therefore essential in maintaining the flow of goods and services to all areas across our business.
We work with our suppliers and partners to create a sustainable network, with practices that embrace responsible business, human rights, equal opportunities, community benefits and positive social and environmental values.
Viridor is managed as a sustainable and successful business with transparency, respect and integrity for the benefit of our customers, employees, local communities and other stakeholders.
We invest in vital infrastructure and innovation for strong performance and sustainable growth
Viridor is committed to support the communities in which it operates.
